Re: | Comments Concerning Proposals for
Low Power FM Broadcast Service RM-9242; Microstation Radio Broadcast Service - RM-9208; and Event Broadcasting - RM-9246 |
Dear Ms. Salas:
This letter is written on behalf of the City of Allentown, Pennsylvania. Please consider this letter as comments in the above-referenced rule making proceedings.
Every year during the Christmas Season, the City of Allentown hosts a winter light festival. A vehicle tour of our Holiday Light Display, which extends for about 1.7 miles, is open to the public for approximately 50 nights. There is always a very large turnout every year and more than 70,000 vehicles toured our display during the first two years. Because we have received an overwhelming demand from visitors to our winter light festival to add music and information to accompany the vehicle tour, the City of Allentown seeks to incorporate aural entertainment into our yearly Holiday Light Display.
The City of Allentown desires to broadcast music (as well as providing directions and other related information) to those who tour our Holiday Light Display via radio transmission. As such, we seek FCC authority for an FM radio broadcast facility with a power of at least 10 watts to cover a radius of approximately two (2) miles. Such a lower power radio facility will allow us to enhance our winter light festival and allow us to better serve the public.
In addition to providing music and information at the Holiday Light Display, the City of Allentown would also like to use the radio broadcast facility at other times to disseminate general information about community events; road projects, and detours, for example. The City of Allentown believes that such low power radio broadcasting is the best way to accomplish our goals.
Accordingly, the City of Allentown supports the institution of a low power radio broadcast service, such as those proposed in the above-referenced rule making proceedings.
If you have any questions concerning this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me or Gary Day.
Sincerely,
WILLIAM L. HEYDT
Mayor
